January 2003

The Theme of the Month is Landscapes and Seaweed. We went to Death Valley and Red Rocks Canyon in Nevada after our tradeshow. Early in the month we took a day on San Diego Bay with friends of Rebecca and Oliver Maxwell so there are a few nautical photos, too.

ATS2.jpg (36129 bytes)
Nothing special except this is so heavily Photoshop'd that I like it. It is a news photo for the paper. (S2)

Ats2-2.jpg (30822 bytes)
The original photo. How many Photoshop tricks can you find?

Boat1.jpg (43471 bytes)
One of two boat photos. PShop sky. Just something I wanted to try. (S2)
Boat2.jpg (30681 bytes)
Straight photo except for contrast boost. Boats on San Diego Bay are very pretty when the light is right. (S2)
DeathValley1.jpg (54503 bytes)
More Photoshop than I care to admit except that I didn't know I knew how to do these things! Death Valley from Hwy 160 at day's end. (S2)
HobieCat.jpg (42212 bytes)
Yet another sail boat on the Bay. No augmentation except a little contrast. It seems that the S2 has to get a little "zetz" on most photos. I can add it in the camera but it looks fake. (S2)
LionRock1.jpg (56333 bytes)
Lion Rock in Red Rocks Canyon, outside Lost Wages. A little contrast boost. Ok, a lot of contrast boost. Perhaps some color correction, too. I don't remember. (S2)
Navy1.jpg (40134 bytes)
A fast moving Navy boat. Really fast. Here one second, gone the next. Lots of guns, too. (S2)
RedRock3.jpg (37508 bytes)
Plants at Red Rocks Canyon. No Pshop except for contrast boost and sharpening. A polarizer on camera gives it the drama. (S2)
Seagull1.jpg (13991 bytes)
I absolutely love this shot. It was Pshopped within an inch of its life. Color correction, contrast, sharpening, you name it and I tried it. My 70-300 is a little soft or I was a little shaky since we were motoring along at 12 knots in rolling seas. I don't know what the hell any of that means but that's what Skipper Chris said, I think. (S2)
SkipperChris1.jpg (14184 bytes)
Speaking of Skipper Chris, here he is. With this dramatic angle and the sunset glow in his face you might expect to see (or sea) him vying for a rose on the Batchlorette, right? (S2)
Zpoint1.jpg (48777 bytes)
Zabriski Point in Death Valley. Perhaps one of the most photographed places on the planet. A very nice photo is available by clicking on this link. It isn't mine. It is very cool. (S2)

Z-point photo

Zpoint2.jpg (49988 bytes)
All the Z-point photos were goosed with contrast and sharpening but that's all. The drama was added with a polarizer. (S2)
Me-RedRocksCyn.jpg (120260 bytes)
Me. (S2)
WindowWash1.jpg (51263 bytes)
"Hey, wanna was a window?" Find the window washer. Or, perhaps he's Spiderman. (S2)
AlexBoat2.jpg (34209 bytes)
Pensive grandchild. He was very well behaved. Go to his page and see the photos of him driving the boat. Really! No kidding! He drove for ten minutes! Got to sit in the lap of a hot blond, too! (S2)
Sky.jpg (23795 bytes)
Sky. No story. Just sky. (S2)
Train.jpg (49512 bytes)
The first Southern Pacific steam locomotive at the California Train Museum in Sacramento. ISO 1600 in available light with the S2. No noise, no Pshop, "Nothin' but photo."
NeeNDJ0103.jpg (39230 bytes)
Just because I love them. During our Neen Wedding Dress Shopping Excursion in San Francisco over New Years. (G2)
