The Safari Helicopter
Tour
We took a 50 minute tour of the island in a Safari Tours helicopter. It
started out scary but the pilot did a great job. After getting off the ground,
it cooled down and we saw many interesting things. If you come to Hawaii, book a
helicopter on the first or second day. It will give you a great overview of the
island and orient you to the places to see.
(As usual, click on
the little picture to see the big picture.)

Us in front of the helicopter. It looks small and it is. They hold 6
people and if you want to ride in the front, go on a diet. Fat guys like
me sit in the middle, in the back.
It has something to do with either weight and balance or
helicopter tour company torture. I'm not sure which. |

The windows are very large.
The control handle either makes the helicopter go up and down, back and
forward, or sideways. I don't have a clue. Ask the pilot if you're
interested.
(Don't grab it. They get really upset, I'm told.)
They also have cute little blue airsickness bags. Take a
Bonine an hour before and you won't need them. |

You can see a lot from the front. This is the Na
Pali coast, which is the reason for going on the ride. You really can't
get there any other way except by boat and that is a much different trip. |

You can tell that Diana had a great time by the
smile on her face. She didn't get sick or nervous which is a good thing
since she was sitting nearest to the window. |

These are boats taking tours of the coast. We
did that the next day and it was cool but not as cool as the helicopter.
Notice the steep cliffs. |

Don't quote me on any of the locations since I
really didn't pay attention but I think this is the Fantasy Island
waterfall. It is supposed to be split down the middle but the evening
before the flight there were very heavy rains and lots of water running.
(Imagine Tattoo standing below the falls, pointing up
and saying, "The Helicopter... The Helicopter!!!") |

I sure hope this is Hanalei Bay since that's
what I've been telling people.
Don't forget the song because this is where Puff The
Magic Dragon lived by the sea, and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land
called Hanalei.
(Look closely in the lower right corner of the photo
and you will see little Jackie.) |

Tons and tons of waterfalls were visible. It
helps a lot that there was a lot of rain the night before. Diana really
likes waterfalls and this tour didn't disappoint her. |

From the water, you can see the archway through
the rock dividing two beaches. This is the one on the right. Predictably,
there is one on the left, also. I didn't find a good photo of it, though. |

The view of Helicopter Central on the way back.
There are a lot of them. Safari was very good and the people are very
nice. We recommend them. Their number is:
