Sirak
Sabahat at High Tech High
February 10, 2006
Sirak is an Israeli actor appearing in Live and
Become, a French-Israeli film making the rounds of major film festivals,
both Jewish and mainstream. He was in San Diego for the Jewish Film Festival.
Indeed, his was the opening night film and everybody, and I do mean everybody,
loved both the film and him. I had the pleasure of taking him to High Tech High
for a lunch with several dozen students as well as an hour long program with
scores more.
To say he was an inspiring speaker would be doing an
injustice to him. He was that and more. The students were enthralled with his
story and his advice, which was, "Do what you love, Love what you do,
Appreciate the advantages you have, Enjoy the love of your family". He should become a major talent and I'm proud to say that
I not only met him but I took him around San Diego and took his picture. Here
are some of the photos that show what we did.

picture to see the big picture.)
Once again, San Diego casts its spell on visitors. |

An Ethiopian woman who happened to be in the room. |
Makes you wish you were 24, good looking and could communicate to the
camera, doesn't it?(Oh, by the way, (and eat your heart
out, low carb fiends.) his favorite food today is bread.) |

His question was, "What do you want to do with your life? What do you
want to be?" He asked every student including the teachers. I'm glad he
didn't ask me.
(I don't know what I want to be when I grow up, Mom.) |
A student made this poster advertising his visit. |

Tina Alvarez coordinated the event for HTH. She even ordered Kosher meals
for lunch although the pizza was a treat. |
I think this was where we both decided that Ethiopian and American men have
something in common. We will both wander around the desert for years without
stopping to ask for directions. |
Enjoy this shot. We even got the dog to cooperate. |
At the Coronado Ferry Landing. |
The most amazing comment (in a day of amazing comments) was when he said
that until he got to Israel, he didn't know there were white Jews.
(Until I got to Israel, I didn't know there were Black
Jews.) |
Even teachers listen in rapt attention. |
